Our Values

So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets. -Matthew 7:12

The Rescue Mission of Cape Fear offers a residential program for homeless men over the age of 18 that serves not only Wilmington but the Cape Fear Region and beyond. Men who come to us may have lost their job, be going through a financial crisis such as bankruptcy, dealing with a variety of substance abuse issues, the loss of their home and family structure or simply have had a bad run in life. When a man comes to us, there is no judgment. It isn’t our job to judge any man who needs the assistance of the Mission. What is our job is to help these men and do for them what Christ has taught us to do. Don’t get us wrong, we don’t do it right every time. However, we try our very best to help these men get back to a point in life whereby they can be self-sufficient and are able to start over again.

We rely on financial donations from the public, revenue from sales of items in our Bargain Center as well as support from local churches and businesses that all have a vested interest in the lives of our residents. Since 1974, we’ve been operating the Mission with the goal to help these men return to life in a better and hopefully a different condition than they were when they came to us. For over 45 years we’ve helped thousands of men in their most desperate times of need. And in this, we have relied on the grace of God and the goodwill of our donors to see us through as we do not receive any funding from local, state or federal sources.

Perhaps more importantly than anything else, we will not discriminate on the basis of anything. We are reminded of the song from long ago, “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.” We welcome, with open arms, any man into our program who voluntarily wants to better their life.

Our Financial Principles:

We will be good stewards of all gifts, financial or material, that we receive.
All donations will be used for the purposes given and those donations given for specific and defined purposes will be used for those expressed purposes and none other. We will never encourage believers to support the Mission in lieu of their churches.

We will never sell, rent, or share our donor mailing list.

We will pay for our purchases promptly.

We will promptly send receipts for all monetary donations and provide receipts for material goods when they are received.

Our donors and customers will be fully informed where and how we use the funds we raise and monies we make in our Bargain Center allowing for complete transparency.

We will seek out donations for our most urgent needs of the Mission to continue its long-standing purpose.

We believe that the Scriptures, both the Old and New Testament in their original form, are fully inspired by God, without error, and are the final authority for the Church.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the absolute deity and full humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ. We believe in His virgin birth, His sinless life, the authenticity of His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death, His bodily resurrection and His present work in Heaven.

We believe that man was originally created sinless. Tempted by Satan, man fell and thereby brought the humankind under the condemnation of eternal separation from God.

We believe that man is saved through repentance and faith in the finished work of Christ. Justification is through grace alone.

We believe in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus sanctifies, empowers, comforts all believers, regenerates and spiritually baptizes believers into the Body of Christ.

We believe that the Church is the Body of Jesus Christ, composed of all true believers. The present work of the church is the worship of God, the perfecting of the saints, and the evangelism of the world.

We believe in the imminent personal and bodily return of the Lord Jesus Christ to consummate our salvation, to judge the world in righteousness and to establish His glorious Kingdom.
